User Experience Manager at IRONMAN – Tampa, FL

The User Experience Manager will lead early stages of product development across a portfolio of sports brands at IRONMAN. This is a new position and great opportunity for a driven person to set the design direction for innovative and intuitive web applications. As a UX designer, you will be a self-starter, able to work independently, while conducting research and involving key stakeholders as necessary with the goal of being an advocate for our athletes and fans. You will have a significant impact on the user experience touching every IRONMAN brand. You must have a comprehensive understanding of current web technologies and best practices, with a critical awareness of business implications of user-centered design and functionality.

This is a key position on the global digital team and you will have support in executing the vision of the global digital lead and help guide evolution of our design science capabilities.

 Key AREAS of Responsibility, Job Metrics and Competencies:

  • Empathizing with and advocating for athletes and fans, giving voice to their goals, needs, experiences, mindset, abilities, and frustrations in both digital and race venue environments
  • Map and own customer journeys and front-end UX development for apps, websites, registration paths, ecommerce and marketing automation
  • Be highly collaborative with stakeholders, writers, visual designers, and developers to co-create digital experiences that provide a compelling message, reflect brand personality, adhere to user-centered design principles, and are technologically advanced
  • Develop and present a wide range of deliverables including Requirements Documentation, Information Architecture, Task and User Flows, User Personas and Scenarios, UI Sketches, Annotated Wireframes, and Interactive Prototypes
  • Write usability test plans, conduct usability testing (remote, facilitated, and guerrilla hallway testing), and make recommendations for iterative design improvements based on testing
  • Help to define and refine user-centered design processes and enthusiastically promote user-centered design throughout the organization including executives
  • Technology vendor management and co-development

  • 2 – 3+ years as a user experience developer, strategist or designer
  • A portfolio of work demonstrating experience creating user-centered design solutions (flows, prototypes, wireframes) and solid visual designs (mockups and style guides). Examples of past work that includes design research, planning and may include web development, app development, user journey mapping, ecomerce or purchase path mapping and design strategy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), Information Systems or equivalent professional experience as an interactive/user experience designer
  • Mobile design proficiency
  • Ability to recognize patterns and advocate for consistency, without repressing inspiration or inhibiting innovation by current teams
  • Proficiency in a variety of design tools (Adobe CSS, InVision, Axure, Balsamiq, Photoshop, Visio)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
  • Experience driving user research/usability tests and interpreting usability test data
  • Familiarity with the technical considerations involved in designing for complex systems
  • Assist internal teams with developing agile methodologies
  • Work closely with IT on data management, automation and CRM evolution impacting front-end digital platforms
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Ability to create functional prototypes in HTML, JavaScript, CSS
    (not expected to have advanced coding capability)
  • Previous experience in sports or event industries
  • Digital agency or advertising agency experience
  • Previous leader/builder of a UX team
  • Understanding of API and data driven content
  • Understanding of AR, VR and emerging tech in content development and distribution
  • Knowledge of JSON and XML feed functionality
  • Specific education and experience in HCI/Human Factors or similar
  • MBA or business degree
